Operator Telia Sonera’s IPTV investments in Sweden are starting to pay off. Over 350,000 of its users have signed up for access to interactive IPTV services – giving it more than 90 percent of the market share.
Telia Sonera reported a 100 percent increase in on-demand traffic in July compared to the same month last year. During July 2009, on-demand traffic increased by 30 percent. Stefan Trampus, head of Broadband Services in Sweden, says IPTV is a growing part of that increase. More info

Wireless Gigabit Alliance (WiGig), the organization advancing the adoption and widespread use of 60 GHz wireless technology worldwide, today announced the completion of its unified wireless specification. The WiGig specification enables high performance wireless display and audio and provides data transfer rates more than 10 times faster than today’s wireless LANs, extending Wi‐Fi technology while supporting backward compatibility with existing Wi‐Fi devices. Net4Mobility, the joint venture by Tele2 and Telenor, today announced that Chinese telecom equipment vendor Huawei will supply infrastructure and modems for next generation mobile communications, 4G, in Sweden. The agreement with Huawei comprises the deployment of the first nationwide 4G network in Sweden and modem services for the new network.
By combining the procurement of a network- and modem vendor, the operators secure an effective deployment and a commercial launch of high-quality 4G services in 2010. Nokia Siemens Networks is on the verge of announcing a fourth LTE deal, according to CEO Rajeev Suri, which would give the struggling equipment vendor some cause for optimism in what has been a tough year.
Company spokesman Kent Tankersley would not say when Nokia Siemens would announce the deal nor which operator the deal was with. He also did not specify whether the deal involved a radio access network or a core network. Thus far, NSN has won LTE radio access deals with NTT DoCoMo, Zain Bahrain and Telenor Denmark; the company also is a supplier of Verizon Wireless' IMS network for its LTE buildout, alongside Alcatel-Lucent.

It provides information of if there are faces in the image or not, how many and where they are positioned. These information can then be used to develop mobile applications that are not only limited to face detector but also required to have face detector as a pre-processing step.

Membership has grown to over 60 companies, of which 18 are operators. But five years on, the HGI's work is far from done.

Wednesday, November 25, 2009 Ericsson Research has been involved for a long time with standardization bodies, such as 3GPP, in an effort to develop protocols for multimedia streaming services. Drawing on this experience, experts at Ericsson Research have developed and released a diagnostic tool for streaming media services. We talked recently with Torbjörn Einarsson, manager at Ericsson Research about the new Streaming Media API , which was released in October 2009.
